Cleaner Oil.
Better Equipment Performance.

Portable filtration provides a practical way to remove contamination while oil remains in service.

Trico filtration systems help remove particles, moisture, and other contaminants from new and in-service lubricants. Improve fluid cleanliness, support equipment reliability, and help extend lubricant service life.

Clean the Oil,
Not Just the Machine

Gearboxes, hydraulic reservoirs, circulating oil systems, and other lubricated assets are continuously exposed to particles, moisture, and other contaminants through normal operation, reservoir breathing, maintenance activities, seals, and the surrounding environment.

Changing the oil removes the contaminated lubricant, but it may also mean disposing of oil that still has useful service life. Portable filtration gives maintenance teams another option by circulating existing oil through appropriately selected filtration media and returning cleaner oil to the reservoir.

Contamination alone does not necessarily mean the lubricant has reached the end of its useful life.

A single portable system can potentially move throughout the plant and support multiple compatible applications, helping make filtration part of planned maintenance instead of reserving it only for contamination emergencies.

Why Add Filtration to Your Lubrication Program?

Address contamination before it becomes a larger maintenance problem.

Remove Contaminants

Remove particulate matter, water, and other contaminants from lubricants.

Support Fluid Service Life

Keeping lubricants clean can reduce the need for frequent fluid replacements and maintenance.

Help Reduce Waste

Prolonging fluid life can decrease the environmental impact associated with lubricant disposal.

Move Between Assets

Use one portable system across multiple compatible applications as maintenance needs change.

Choose the Filtration Format That Fits the Work

Trico offers portable and dedicated options for different maintenance requirements, lubricant viscosities, storage needs, and transfer activities.

From Contaminated Oil to Cleaner Oil

Clean the lubricant while it remains part of the asset's lubrication program.

1

Before Filtration

Contaminated oil circulates through the system. Particles and moisture can contribute to wear and reduce equipment reliability.

2

Filter While in Service

Oil circulates through the filtration system to remove contaminants, then returns to
the reservoir.

3

After Filtration

  • Improved cleanliness
  • Extended oil service life
  • Improved equipment reliability

Documented Filtration Results

In one Trico case study, purchased gear oil was filtered with a high-viscosity handheld system. The results below apply to that documented sample and filtration sequence.

1

Starting Sample

ISO cleanliness code 20/19/15 with a wear particle concentration rating of 7.8, classified as marginal.

2

After 10-Micron Filtration

After two hours of filtration, the oil measured ISO 18/17/14 with a wear particle concentration rating of 7.3, classified as normal.

3

After 3-Micron Filtration

After an additional two hours of filtration, the oil measured ISO 17/16/14 with a wear particle concentration rating of 3.3, classified as normal.

Trico reported only trace quantities of debris in the final sample, with no signs of steel or nonferrous debris observed.

Portable Filtration FAQs

Quick answers for maintenance and reliability teams evaluating oil filtration.

No. Contamination alone does not necessarily mean the lubricant has reached the end of its useful life. When oil analysis indicates the lubricant remains suitable for continued use, filtration may help restore cleanliness without automatically replacing the oil.
Portable filtration offers flexibility. A single system can potentially move throughout the plant and support multiple compatible applications, which can help facilities address numerous lubricated assets without permanently installed offline filtration on every machine.
Consider gearboxes with large lubricant volumes, critical production equipment, hydraulic reservoirs and equipment operating in dusty, humid or challenging environments. Start with a few assets where contamination could have a meaningful effect on reliability.
Consider filtration when oil analysis indicates elevated particle contamination, after maintenance work exposes a reservoir to the environment, or when in-service oil remains suitable but needs improved cleanliness. It can be part of planned maintenance as well as a response to contamination.
Oil analysis and particle counting can establish the oil's current condition, help define the required level of cleanliness and verify whether the filtration work accomplished its objective.
