Anaerobic Cure
Cures to a tough, solid state on contact with metal

Threaded fasteners loosen because of side-sliding and shifting between the threads, not because they untwist. Loctite anaerobic threadlockers fill the clearance, cure to a solid, and stop the side-shift that causes vibration loosening.

The result: longer service intervals, fewer repeat repairs, and one product family that covers everything from delicate electronics to heavy industrial equipment.

Applied® stocks the full Loctite lineup at regional centers across North America.

Loctite Threadlocker FAQs

Quick answers to the questions maintenance teams ask most.

Blue (medium strength, like Loctite 242) holds firmly but releases with standard hand tools. Red (high strength, like Loctite 262) is designed for permanent assembly and requires localized heat at 550°F (260°C) to release. Use blue for serviceable joints and red for fasteners that should never loosen.
Most Loctite threadlockers are formulated for metal-to-metal applications. For plastic-to-plastic or plastic-to-metal assemblies, use Loctite 425 Assure. It is a plastic-safe wicking grade that locks the fastener without cracking plastic components.
Handling strength develops in about 10 minutes, with full cure in 24 hours. Cure activates when threads engage and air contact is lost. Apply, assemble immediately, and let the joint sit undisturbed during the cure window.
Use purple (low strength, Loctite 222) for fasteners under 1/4". Use blue (medium strength, Loctite 242) for 1/4" to 3/4" fasteners that may need to come apart for service. Use red (high strength, Loctite 262) for 1/4" to 3/4" fasteners that must never loosen, accepting that removal requires heat.
Yes. Apply Loctite to clean, dry threads for full cure and reliable holding strength. Oil, coolant, or contamination on the threads slows the cure and reduces the final bond.
Wicking-grade Loctite (such as Loctite 290) is designed for post-assembly application. It penetrates already-assembled threads through capillary action and cures in place. Standard liquid grades should go on the threads before assembly.
